Gau Graig

I want to find a good route to the Cadair Idris ridge.  My aim was to summit Gau Graig and come straight back.

Route Up

I followed the most direct route from home to the summit. The first mile was simple through the command land. As soon as I came out of the woods and followed the wall around the woods it got boggy and finding a “not over the boots” route was hard. After a mile of that I got to higher ground and then started to climb it was better but still very wet ground.

Some wild flowers in the bog.
Distant Mynydd Moel and Penygadair; not today but a goal for another.
Rest stop before climbing the ridge.

View up the ridge (with a large seam of quartz?)
View down (A487 winding its way from The Cross Foxes to Bwlch Llyn Bach).
View from the top towards Dolgellau.

Route Down.

I choose a slightly different route down to avoid the bog. I think any future trips will miss out on a hard to follow and wet section at Blwch-coch and use the path further down the track.

7.1 miles.

3 hours 28 miles.
